P1386. Cylinder Position Sensor 2 Intermittent Interruption. This Honda-enhanced code applies to Accord, Prelude, Odyssey with distributor-mounted CYP sensors.
Common causes of P1386
- Distributor-internal cylinder position sensor 2 with an intermittent open
- Worn distributor shaft bushing letting the reluctor wobble
- Chafed CYP sensor 2 wiring shorting intermittently
- Corroded distributor connector pins breaking contact over bumps
- Oil intrusion into the distributor from a failed internal seal
How to fix P1386
- Wiggle-test the distributor harness while watching the CYP 2 signal on a scope
- Inspect inside the distributor cap for oil contamination and shaft play
- Check the connector pins for corrosion and spread terminals
- Test CYP sensor 2 resistance and compare to the service manual range
- Replace the distributor assembly if the signal drops out with shaft play or oil inside
